The southern carmine bee eater migrates through Zimbabwe and (later) Botswana during the breeding season, August to November. It then goes further south, to South Africa for the summer before returning to equatorial africa.

The Marabou Stork is sometimes known as the Undertaker Bird because of their grey jacket and the way they stand, silently and unmoving as they watch predators feed. When the big mammals have finished, these carrion-feeders will move in for their share.

Marabou are large birds, standing up to 150cm (~5ft) tall with verified wingspans of 3.2m, the largest of land-based birds and second only to the Wandering Albatross (3.5m).

Cheetahs might be the fastest land animal but they certainly don’t have it all their own way. They can only run at top speed for short distances, whilst the prey can run much longer. So unless they get very close to their quarry before they are seen, they usually miss out.
Even if they do kill, they are immediately at risk from losing their meal to lions, leopards, hyenas, wild dogs and even vultures.
It seems that an “invisible hand” manages to keep things in balance in nature.
