A village #elder of the #Ik tribe in far northern #Uganda. They were evicted from their ancestral homelands when the Kidepo Velley National Park was established. They bounced around they country as neighboring tribes excluded them from their territories. Eventually they settled on the tops of a few mountains in places without water catchments and too cold to be desirable to other tribes. Today they live a quiet, reclusive existence always on the lookout (sentries announced our approach) for people who might again take their land.

Then suddenly, their fear overcome by the lure of fresh pasture ahead and the pressure of thousands behind them, they leap into the water madly swimming for the opposite shore.
